B2 Atelier is pleased to present The Quiet Resistance, a solo exhibition by Fransie Malherbe Frandsen.
Frandsen’s practice operates at the intersection of visual poetics and social consciousness. Working in acrylic and mixed media, she constructs layered compositions that suggest the complexity of collage while remaining wholly painterly. Figures appear suspended, winged, fragmented, or partially submerged — inhabiting psychological terrains shaped by vulnerability, displacement, and resilience.
Informed by her background in art psychotherapy and shaped by a cross-cultural life between South Africa and Europe, Frandsen approaches the body as both personal and collective site. Her imagery does not declare protest; it embodies it. Gesture, posture, and surface become subtle acts of defiance, revealing the strength embedded within fragility.
Within The Quiet Resistance, transformation unfolds not through spectacle, but through introspection. The works propose that endurance, empathy, and imagination are themselves forms of resistance.
Fransie Malherbe Frandsen
Fransie Malherbe Frandsen is a multidisciplinary fine artist, writer, and illustrator whose practice unfolds at the intersection of visual poetics and social consciousness. Born in South Africa and shaped by years of living and studying across several countries before settling in Switzerland, Fransie brings to her work a deeply layered, cross-cultural perspective. Her academic foundation in Graphic Design and Art Psychotherapy informs a practice that is both aesthetically compelling and psychologically resonant.
Her work is profoundly influenced by her exposure to diverse cultures and her professional engagement as an art psychotherapist. Through her work, Fransie courageously addresses themes often overlooked or dismissed by society, inviting viewers into spaces of reflection, empathy, and critical awareness. Her artistic language can best be described as artivism — a powerful synthesis of artistic expression and social engagement.
Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Fransie constructs richly textured compositions that evoke the complexity of collage, yet intriguingly contain no paper. Each surface is meticulously built through layered gestures and material exploration, resulting in works that are both visually dynamic and conceptually nuanced.
Internationally acclaimed, Fransie’s work has been exhibited globally and continues to resonate with diverse audiences. As a winner of the Women in Art Biennale in London, she was honored with an Award of Excellence — a recognition of both her artistic merit and her meaningful contribution to contemporary discourse.
Beyond the gallery walls, Fransie has also written and illustrated a successful series of children’s books, extending her creative voice into literature and nurturing imagination across generations.
