B2 Atelier is pleased to present Carried Across Water, a sculptural textile work by Tingting Xiao.

Xiao transforms handweaving into a poetic vessel of memory and movement. The sail-like textile, woven from naturally dyed Asian yarns, evokes both journey and anchoring — a form suspended between migration and belonging. Resting on a wooden base, the structure suggests a boat in quiet stillness, carrying fragments of heritage across imagined waters.

Frayed threads, translucent layers, and shifting hues of pink, green, and earth tones reveal the tactile intelligence of natural fiber. Drawing from her cultural roots, Xiao merges traditional textile knowledge with contemporary sculptural language, approaching sustainability as philosophy rather than aesthetic.

Within this work, weaving becomes meditation — a gesture of continuity where fragility and resilience coexist.

Tingting Xiao

Tingting Xiao is a London-based handweaver and visual artist, and a member of Young Craft Citizen. Her practice explores the emotional and spiritual dimensions embedded within Asian natural yarns, expressed through handweaving, natural dyeing, and immersive textile installations.

Rooted in her cultural heritage, Xiao bridges traditional craft techniques with contemporary design language. Her work foregrounds material sensitivity — honouring the tactile, meditative qualities of fibre — while embracing sustainable and mindful making processes.

Through a refined interplay of texture, form, and colour, Tingting Xiao transforms natural materials into contemplative spaces, inviting viewers to engage with textiles not only as objects, but as vessels of memory, identity, and quiet spiritual resonance.
