B2 Atelier is pleased to present Echoes in Tile, a solo exhibition by Aurore Monteil.
Working between architecture and visual art, Monteil transforms the traditional medium of hand-painted azulejos into contemporary spatial compositions. Structured through modular grids yet animated by expansive chromatic fields, her works explore how geometry and colour shape perception.
Patterns ripple outward like atmospheric or cosmic phenomena, while organic and mineral forms intersect within disciplined architectural frameworks. The tile becomes more than surface; it becomes rhythm, repetition, and resonance — carrying traces of heritage while engaging the present.
In Echoes in Tile, craft and abstraction converge. Monteil reveals how material, light, and geometry quietly influence the body’s experience of space, creating environments that are both grounded in tradition and open to interpretation.
Aurore Monteil
Aurore Monteil is a French architect and multidisciplinary artist living between Paris and Lisbon. Trained in architecture and contemporary dance in Paris, she later deepened her practice in Lisbon by specializing in the ancestral art of hand-painted azulejos, integrating heritage craft into a contemporary artistic language.
In 2024, she founded 4A Studio, an experimental research space dedicated to exploring the intersections of architecture, visual arts, and craft through a vibrational and sensory-based approach. Her work — spanning azulejos, installation, and multi-technique practices — investigates how materials, geometry, colour, and frequency influence the body and shape spatial perception.
Drawing on sacred geometry, intuitive movement, and chromatic fields, Monteil creates immersive environments conceived as energetic ecosystems. Her installations function as portals to the unseen, inviting viewers to experience space not only visually, but physically and intuitively.
Her public commission for a social housing building near Paris was awarded the 2025 Regional Prize from Ateliers d’Art de France (Heritage Category), recognising her ability to reinterpret traditional craft within a contemporary architectural framework.
Through her practice, Aurore Monteil encourages a shift in perception — revealing subtle dimensions that quietly shape human experience and our relationship to space.
